Our friend, Mango, suddenly disappeared recently.
It was very unlike her.
But we weren’t worried. Because she’s a very smart dog. And she knows not to get into trouble. In fact, she’s probably the smartest dog I’ve ever met.
She knows how to open doors. On her own.
She knows how to communicate with people in dog language. Even though I have no idea what she’s saying, I can sometimes guess.
And she’s an expert at finding and killing… rats!
Why did she run away from home secretly when no one was watching to go out and play?
We had no idea. But she always came back.
Always…
Except for that day. And that night.
We were worried. So we went out to look for her at day break, praying the whole time that nothing happened to her.
We found her sleeping under a tree behind our house.
She passed away in her sleep. Reaching the end of her lifespan. She was a grandma, and pretty old in terms of dog years.
She was very healthy.
Always running up and down the stairs, jumping around like a little puppy, no signs of age. So it came as a shock to us.
But I guess, like most dogs, she didn’t want us to worry, so she ran off to pass away on her own…
… somewhat like elephants going to the Elephant Graveyard.
We’ve been dealing with the trauma.
It’s been tough.
But we’re just grateful that she didn’t get hurt, or in any accidents, and she just passed peacefully of old age in her sleep, hopefully having a good time in heaven right now.
I’ll probably create a wreath in her honor for the store when I’m able to.
Still not used to coming home, and not having her waiting next to our car to give us a hug when we come out…
But, it’s the circle of life.
And we’re just grateful for the memories that will stay with us forever…
Sincerely,
Aurelia “Totally Devastated” Nobleia
